Enlist
v. intr.- To enter the armed forces.
- To participate actively in a cause or enterprise.
God is calling every person into a unique personal relationship with Him. Believe it or not God knows your name, he knows your thoughts, your dreams, your fears and in fact the Bible says He has every hair on your head counted.
Matthew 10:30
But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
The Bible also says that God is calling you to live a life with Him; He desires to be involved in your everyday life, from the moment you wake to the moment you sleep. Relationships are, however, a two-way thing. Jesus said ‘knock and the door will be opened, seek and you will find’, so there is no doubt where God stands. The question is ‘where do you stand?’ Are you willing to let go of your own desires and needs and seek God, allowing Him to take control of your life?
Jesus said ‘I came that you may have life and have it to the fullest’. God does not desire to chain you down or deprive you of joy and fulfilment; these are in fact the very things he desires to give you, freedom, joy and fulfilment. I have this t-shirt made by a company called One Truth and the slogan on it reads ‘…because sometimes the things we call freedom enslave us…’ Where do we find freedom? And what does it look like? Let me suggest that freedom comes in knowing who you are, and why you are here. Often we try and forge meaning from life by giving in to our every desire; in a hope that when all our desires are met we will feel a sense of satisfaction and freedom. However, we are never quite satisfied; we are always left thirsty and further confused. Jesus said to a woman he met at a well in a place called Samaria.
John 4:13-14
Everyone who drinks this water will get thirsty again and again. Anyone who drinks the water I give will never thirst--not ever. The water I give will be an artesian spring within, gushing fountains of endless life
This is a very bold statement; Jesus is in fact saying that in Him lies the meaning of life and that those that accept Him will never again thirst for understanding and truth. You see Jesus created us, so he therefore knows all about us and wants to reveal to us who we are and ultimately who He is. We are being invited to be a part of something much greater than ourselves. We are being invited to participate in seeing our culture changed by the love of God.
However, if the world is going to change it has to start with us. It has to start with us accepting that we are part of the problem, that it is only when we begin to confront our selfish desires and the secrets of our hearts can we then begin to see things change for the better. Jesus is calling us to enlist, to actively participate in a life with Him. He has already confronted our weaknesses and problems when He died on the Cross. If we can humble ourselves and accept Jesus’ free gift of life, then a radical journey into freedom, truth and love awaits us.
